NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- President Donald Trump had a busy week last week, with the UN General Assembly going on.

But he wasn't too busy to sing the praises of one of his favorite baseball players.

Trump recorded a video wishing Mets great David Wright good luck as he moves on from his big league career.

"You're a winner, David. You're a great winner and a great man. Have a terrific life. I'll be seeing you along the journey. Take care of yourself. We're very proud of you," Trump said.

Trump, a Queens native, said he's always been a big David Wright fan, and praised the third baseman for his prowess on the diamond and on the golf course.

"I'm at the United Nations, and I left a lot of very important countries to get up and say you are a spectacular man and a great baseball player. Tremendous hitter, tremendous fielder, a winner, and you've been my friend. You've been my friend for a long time. We played golf together, and the people we beat have never forgotten you." he said.

The video drew mixed responses from Mets fans with some thrilled to see one of their favorite ballplayers draw praise from the Oval Office.

"It's an honor to have the President congratulate you," Shawn said.

Adri disagreed.

"Trump, leave David Wright alone," she said.

Darcy echoed that sentiment, saying Trump should, 'get off the bandwagon.'

Wright announced that injuries would prevent him from continuing his career. He's struggled with back, neck, and shoulder problems in recent years. The Mets activated Wright for the final homestand of the season. He appeared in two games, pinch hitting on Friday, and starting at third base on Saturday.
