NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police say a woman was killed and her friend was in critical condition after the two tumbled off a Brooklyn subway platform and were struck by a train.

The two young women were drunk when they fell off the platform of the Broadway Junction station in East New York around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

The women had just gotten off an A train and were walking near the edge of the platform when they fell between two cars as the train pulled out of the station, police said. The train then ran them both over.

It appears one of the women may have fallen and the other woman tried to pull her up but fell too.

“She fell and the train kept going,” one shaken witness told ABC7. “But they was holding arms. The train kept going.”

Fellow riders tried banging on the windows to get the train to stop, but the women had already been hit.

Responding officers found the women underneath the train.

A 23-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her 24-year-old friend suffered a broken arm and was in critical condition early Sunday.

The name of the deceased woman is being withheld pending the notification of her family.

The news is weighing on straphangers who use the station.

“It’s a tragedy,” Nathanial told 1010 WINS. “It’s sad, bro. You know, things happen. It’s sad.”
