NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A woman was injured when she was struck in the head by a heavy lounge chair that flew off a balcony of a Manhattan building.

The 23-year-old woman was at street level when she was struck by the chair shortly after 1:30 p.m., police told 1010 WINS.

The large chair somehow fell from a 12th-floor balcony at 15 Union Square West. The wind may have been a factor—gusts on Saturday were topping 40 mph at times. Police said they couldn’t confirm that the weather played a part.

The chair landed on the woman, striking her on the head and hitting a car.

Police said the woman suffered a laceration on her head and was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses told WABC that the woman was unconscious for several minutes before she started screaming in pain.
