July 11, 2018 - 6:29 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A woman was found dead Tuesday night inside a trash compactor in a lower Manhattan apartment building.

Police say the 48-year-old woman was found unconscious and unresponsive at around 5 p.m. at the 29-story Zenckendorf Towers near Union Square. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police confirmed the woman, later identified as Lara Prychodko, lived in the building, which is home to many high profile residents, including Anthony Weiner and his wife Huma Abedin.

Neighbors said she hadn't lived there very long, and didn't know much about her, but believed she was very ill.

"We heard that it was cancer, that was cancer and she committed suicide," a woman said.

Prychenko was seen on surveillance video walking around the 27th floor.

Other residents wondered how she could have gotten into the the chute.

"Nobody could figure out, I guess that's why the police are here investigating," one woman said.

"It's scary," one resident said. "In fact, when I texted my boyfriend about this he told me to get out of the building cause he was worried, as was I. But it was so hush, hush."

Police remained active at the scene for more than 12 hours, but it still remains unclear how she ended up in the compactor.
