NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Cops are searching for a man who tried to rape a woman in broad daylight in upper Manhattan on Thursday – the NYPD says the victim was able to escape by throwing coffee in the face of her attacker.

The 51-year-old woman was by the entrance of an apartment building near Seaman Avenue and Academy Street shortly before 10 a.m. when police say the suspect followed behind her and pushed her into a hallway.

The suspect told the woman to do what he said, according to police, who said the man then tried to pull the woman’s pants down.

The woman was able to turn around and toss a cup of coffee in his face while yelling for help, police said.

After getting coffee splashed in his face, the suspect took off out of the building down Seaman Avenue.

The NYPD released video of the suspect on Friday.

Police believe he’s in his 30s and weighs about 250 pounds.
