NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are investigating the death of an elderly woman who was found with her throat slashed early Sunday morning.

Authorities confirmed Susan Trott, 70, was found with a laceration to her neck inside her apartment on West End Avenue at around 5 a.m.

According to investigators, there was no sign of forced entry to Trott’s apartment. She was only found after a business partner checked in on her after not hearing from her in a few days.

He told police he discovered blood in the living room and followed the trail into the bedroom, where Trott was found unconscious and unresponsive.

EMS responded and pronounced the 70-year-old dead at the scene.

Neighbors explained they were shocked to learn about the death as the area is considered relatively safe, the apartment building is equipped with multiple security cameras and all visitors must pass through a security check at the front door.

There were no arrests as of Monday morning and police said the investigation was ongoing.
