NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A press conference was held Tuesday in lower Manhattan by a number of police widows including two who were killed by parolees.

The wives of officers Thomas Ruotolo and Cicile Sledge were among those calling for changes to the parole system to keep cop killers in prison for life.

Sledge was a 12-year police veteran when he was killed in 1980, during the car stop of a man released from jail. The killer, Sal Desarno, is up for parole next month.

Ruotolo was a cop for three years when he was shot and killed in 1984 by a man who was out on parole for manslaughter. Killer Goerge Agosto is eligible for parole in 2023.
