West Side Residents Sue To Stop L-Train Shutdown

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Don't stop the L-train!

That's what West Side residents are saying as they sue to keep the train from shutting down, a year before the MTA plans major repairs to the East River Subway tunnel.

The West Side neighborhood groups filed suit in federal court. The Daily News says they're worried about the 15 month closure to fix Hurricane Sandy damage, disrupting their neighborhood with massive traffic jams and other problems.

Residents say agencies never did the required environmental study for the repairs, and the plans were designed with commuters, not residents, in mind.

The MTA plans to close the Canarsie Tunnel a year from now for the work. It's not commenting on the suit, but said repairs are desperately needed.
