WATCH: Trans man learns how to shave in groundbreaking Gillette ad

Gillette
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- It's no secret that trans individuals are not widely represented in mass media.
But the latest commercial from Gillette has taken a step to change that, by featuring a trans man -- Samson Bonkeabantu Brown of Toronto -- who is taught how to shave by his father.
"Growing up I was always trying to figure out what kind of man I want to become and I’m still trying to figure out what kind that I want to become," Brown says in the commercial.
His father watches him shave for the first time, and says, "Now don’t be scared. Shaving is about being confident. You are doing fine."
At the end of the ad, Brown says, "It’s not just myself transitioning. It’s everyone around me transitioning."
The ad’s tagline, released as part of its just unveiled #MyBestSelf campaign, says, "Whenever, wherever, however it happens – your first shave is special."
Brown further commented on Gillette's Facebook page, writing, "Thank you so much Gillette for allowing me to share such an important moment in a man's life with my father.
I look forward to the great things you're going to continue doing to encourage us all to be our best selves. Love y'all greatly! #MyBestSelf."
