Around 5 a.m. on July 26, cops in the northwestern suburb Lakemoor, shot and killed Kenneth Martell, 36, a suspect in a Pennsylvania murder, WBBM Chicago reports.

A spokesman for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force says an officer on patrol noticed a car parked on an access road near Four Seasons Boulevard and Sullivan Lake Road.

Martell told officers that he was 'heading west' from Pennsylvania, and had stopped to rest. Lake County Attorney Michael G Nerheim said Martell gave officers a fake name and a piece of paper, before pulling a gun on the distracted officer.

Nerheim said Martell pulled the trigger but the gun didn't fire.

A backup officer approached and observed Martell holding revolvers in both hands, Nerheim said. The officer ordered him to drop the guns, before shooting Martell in the face.

WBBM reports, Martell was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy determined that he died of a gunshot wound to the face, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office. Toxicology results ruled Martell had amphetamines, methamphetamine, and marijuana in his system.

Martell was wanted in connection with the murder of 88-year-old Theodore Garver, 88, in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
