NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- With Fleet Week well underway, it makes sense that one of the ships here is the USS New York.

The USS New York is actually the fifth ship of the U.S. Navy to be named after the state.

Shortly after the September 11 terror attacks, Gov. George E. Pataki wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Navy requesting that it bestow the name "New York" on a surface warship involved in the war on terror, in honor of the victims of the September 11 attacks.
