This weekend, the NYPD released a surveillance image of a suspect, who they say painted “IDOL” on the statue around 3 a.m.

"As of right now, we don’t really know who, we don’t know why," Father James Kuroly, rector-president of Cathedral Prep, told 1010 WINS.

"We do know that what was written, meaning ‘idol,’ you know, it’s kind of a sad case of where we are," Kuroly said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
