NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An NYPD SUV drove into a metal barricade and then into a group of protesters at a demonstration in Prospect Heights Saturday night, according to videos posted to social media, and Mayor De Blasio said it is under investigation.

"There is no situation where a police vehicle should drive into a crowd of protesters or New Yorkers," he said at his briefing on Monday, adding the incident is under investigation.

The footage begins with an NYPD SUV sitting in the middle of Flatbush Avenue near St. Marks Avenue. Another NYPD SUV then arrives, passing by the existing SUV and proceeds to slam through the barricade and into the crowd, causing several protesters to be knocked off their feet.

Mayor Bill De Blasio addressed the incident at an 11:30 p.m. briefing, saying, "It's inappropriate  for protesters to surround a police vehicle and and threaten police officers."

Earlier on Sunday NY1 he said it was a "troubling" incident, also stopped short of blaming the NYPD.

"If those protesters had just gotten out of the way and not created an attempt to surround that vehicle, we would not be talking about this situation," de Blasio said.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who represents parts of Queens and the Bronx, tweeted that the driver of the vehicle should be “brought to justice.”
