NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Sunday in Brooklyn.

The collision occurred in the Bensonhurst section, near the intersection of 86th Street and 19th Avenue, officials say.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., 26-year-old Jose Contla was walking to work at a bakery when a black sedan fatally struck him.

Police say Contla's body was thrown almost 40 feet from the impact.

Contla suffered respiratory arrest and was rushed to Maimonides Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are searching for a black sedan that is tinted - possibly a Toyota and on Sunday night released a video of the vehicle in question leaving the scene.

Police say the car will likely have front-end damage.

An investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad.
