CUMBRIA, England (1010 WINS) -- Police in the United Kingdom have rescued a man they say lived in a 6-foot shed for nearly four decades.

The 58-year-old was found at a home during an early morning raid in northwest England, according to authorities.

Another 79-year-old man was arrested as police look into whether the rescued man was a potential victim of modern slavery.

The Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority tweeted that the man was “living in shocking conditions for 40 years.”

“When we found him he was like a rabbit in headlights and very confused … He was just in the clothes he stood up in and where he was sleeping in the shed there was just a soiled duvet on the floor. There was no heating and it was very cold. It was conditions that no human being should live in,” senior investigating officer Martin Plimmer said.

The tweet includes a photo of a green shed with a white patio chair and a pile of blankets inside.

Authorities said the rescued man is “receiving ongoing support and is doing well.”

The Guardian reports, there has been an evolving threat from modern day slavery with 136,000 people trapped in 2016.
