Uber Joins Coalition Calling For Congestion Pricing In New York

March 07, 2018 - 10:38 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- If congestion pricing ever comes to New York, Uber drivers would be among those paying extra fees.

Despite those fees, Uber has joined a coalition calling for implementation of congestion pricing.

Other members include the groups 'Move NY', 'Transportation Alternatives', 'The Real Estate Board', and the 'Service Employees Union.'

The coalition is planning a communications campaign designed to engage the public and encourage lawmakers to accept the recommendations of the governors 'Fix NYC' panel.

The panel has suggested charging vehicles inside the Manhattan Central Business district, a fee on for-hire vehicles to fund mass transit upgrades, and improved enforcement of existing traffic laws to keep streets flowing.

Earlier this week Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a crackdown on 'don't block the box' violators. Violators can be hit with license points, and fines up to $138.
