Transit Union Demands Cameras For Conductors After Latest Attack

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- There's been a major increase in attacks on subway workers lately, and conductors seem to be the preferred target. Another one was attacked on Tuesday.

The attacks have become a new pastime for punks and perhaps the mentally unhinged; seven subway conductors have been attacked over the past month. The latest took place on a Q-train. Conductor Frank Sbano told CBS2 that out of nowhere, he got whacked upside the head.

"I was at the window sticking my head out the window making sure they get on and off safely, and when I close the door I don't close it on them. The only thing I knew, I got hit and I was on the floor," he said.

Because the attack was so sudden, Sbano didn't see his assailant which has the Transit Workers Union demanding that conductors be equipped with cameras to help cops catch the criminals.
