Petition: Rename street outside Trump Tower after Obama

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An online petition signed by thousands of people seeks to rename the stretch of Fifth Avenue outside Trump Tower after former President Barack Obama.

The petition had more than 20,000 signatures on Monday morning – less than 5,000 to its goal.

Supporters hope to change the name of Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th streets to “President Barack H. Obama Avenue.”

A name change, which would have to be approved by the City Council and Mayor Bill de Blasio, would force President Donald Trump to formally change the address of his namesake tower.

According to The Hill, Trump plans to have his 2020 reelection campaign headquarters at the tower.

“The City of Los Angeles recently honored former President Barack Obama by renaming a stretch of the 134 Freeway near Downtown L.A. in his honor. We request the New York City Mayor and City Council do the same,” the petition reads.
