EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Maybe it'll fare a little better this time -- the XFL is coming back in 2020.

League commissioner and CEO Oliver Luck said 30 cities were in the running for teams, but in the end only 8 will be getting franchises.

Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, and Washington D.C. will all be hosting XFL teams.

The league says nicknames for teams and coaches will be decided on early in 2019, and that teams will start finding quarterbacks over the summer.

The XFL is a re-launch by WWE CEO Vince McMahon who launched the original XFL to much fanfare in 2001. While the original XFL was filled with gimmicks, McMahon and Luck have promised a serious football experience this time around.

The original XFL lasted just one season.
