Teenager Gunned Down While Walking To Basketball Practice

July 13, 2018 - 10:25 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A teenager was shot to death while walking with his girlfriend in Bed Stuy on Wednesday.

Latrell Brown was shot in the head on his way to basketball practice. His girlfriend said it all started when Brown asked the suspect if he had a problem.

Justin Delapara, 17, allegedly responded by shooting him in the head -- he's charged with murder.

“Me and Latrell were walking, and this guy was making a face,” girlfriend Sabrina Tucker, 17, told the Daily News. “Latrell asks the guy if he has a problem. He turns around and shoots him. I ran to him. I took my shirt and covered his head. I told him I needed him and loved him.”

Brown's mother said her son loved basketball, and would often sleep with one. She told the Daily News that he was never in trouble.

“How you gonna take somebody's life like that?” she said. “What are you doing carrying a gun?"

Delapara's lawyer has promised a vigorous defense, he's being held at Rikers Island until a July 17 court date.

Some 60 relatives and friends held a vigil on Thursday, marching from Brooklyn Law and Technical High School where Brown would have been a senior in the fall.
