Teenage suspect in critical condition after being shot by police in Queens

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 15-year-old suspect is in critical condition after being shot by police in Queens Friday night.

NYPD Assistant Chief David Barrere confirmed police from the 101st Precinct were called to a home near Redfern Ave. and Nameoke Ave. in Far Rockaway to disperse a fight.

The fight spilled out into the street and two officers witnessed a one person firing a gun towards a crowd. According to police, the officers engaged and asked the suspect to drop the gun.

Police said the officers fired at the suspect, hit him several times.

The 15-year-old was then taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The boy’s Smith and Wesson handgun was recovered at the scene of the shooting. He was later arrested and charged with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm.

The two officers involved were taken to South Nassau Hospital for evaluation.
