IOWA CITY (1010 WINS) – An Iowa high school teacher has resigned over a comment he made about a “sniper rifle” in a Facebook post about 16-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg.

Buzzfeed reports that Matt Baish, a chemistry teacher at Waterloo West High School, made the since-deleted comment in response to a former student’s post about Thunberg’s Iowa City rally last week.

“Who’s all going,” the former student posted to Facebook.

“Dont (sic) have my sniper rifle,” Baish responded, according to Buzzfeed.

The comment outraged some residents and parents given Thunberg is the same age as Baish’s students.

A Waterloo Schools representative told Buzzfeed that Baish had resigned: “West High School and the District are working to ensure classroom instruction continues for courses impacted by the departure.”

Baish didn’t comment to BuzzFeed.
