Long Island man allegedly on drugs when he hit, killed bicyclist

MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Suffolk County police arrested a man for driving while impaired by drugs after he struck and killed a bicyclist early Saturday.

Police said Vincent Rienzie Jr., 27, was driving westbound on Route 25 in Middle Island just before 4:30 a.m. when his vehicle veered out of the lane and struck the cyclist.

The biker, identified as 56-year-old Stephen Salzman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rienzie was transported to Stony Brook Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

He will be arraigned tomorrow morning in Central Islip.
