NYPD: Man Driving On Belt Parkway Impaled By Fallen Tree

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 38-year-old man traveling on the Belt Parkway with involved in a freak accident Saturday morning.

It happened at 7:45 a.m. just passed the 92nd Street exit on the parkway. Police say a Staten Island man was traveling westbound in a Dodge Carvan in Brooklyn when a whole tree fell onto his car.

The impact shattered the windshield and tree branches impaled the man in the abdomen, according to cops.

Authorities say the man continued driving to 84th Street before he crashed into the center median and came to a complete stop.

The man was removed from the car and taken to NYU Lutheran Medical Hospital in serious condition.
