NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – State Sen. Jose Peralta, who represented a diverse slice of Queens, has died at the age of 47.

Fellow lawmakers say the Queens Democrat suffered an apparent heart attack late Wednesday night.

Peralta was the first Dominican-American elected to the state Senate back in 2010.

He became a member of the breakaway Independent Democratic Conference, which sided with Republicans in the state Senate.

Peralta was defeated in the Democratic primary this year by Jessica Ramos, who then easily won the seat, which represents a variety of neighborhoods, including Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Woodside and Corona.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he was “deeply saddened by the sudden passing.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Peralta "worked his way up from the grassroots, with heart and tenacity."

Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz said Peralta was “a good father, a loving husband, and a dedicated public servant.”

State Sen. Marty Golden said he was “a great man who gave his all to the community he served and New York State.”

State Sen. Mike Gianaris said "my heart goes out to his family."
