NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A staffer at Rep. Yvette Clarke’s Brooklyn office has tested positive for the coronavirus, Clarke confirmed Friday on Twitter.

"A staffer in my Brooklyn office has tested positive for #Covid_19. I care very deeply about my staffers as they make the work for NY-09 possible. We are monitoring this staffer's well-being, who is currently asymptomatic."

This is the first known case of the virus in New York’s congressional delegation.

Brooklyn staffer who were in contact with the infected staffer have been practing social distancing, a statement from Clarke said.

The statement notes that congresswoman Clarke was not exposed to the staffer and does not have COVID-19.

Clarke communications director Sarah Sinovic said Friday that the staffer attended a personal event in the city last week and learned afterwards that a person there had the virus.

The staffer has self-quarantined since last week, Sinovic adds.
