St. Barnabas doc to NRA: Gun control is indeed a medical issue

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The National Rifle Association has taken issue with an influential medical journal for its position on gun control, slamming "anti-gun doctors."

"Someone should tell self-important anti-gun doctors to stay in their lane," the NRA tweeted. "Half of the articles in Annals of Internal Medicine are pushing for gun control. Most upsetting, however, the medical community seems to have consulted NO ONE but themselves."

One doctor who is outraged over the NRA's comments is Dr. Gerard Baltazar, a trauma surgeon at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx.

He said gun control is a medical -- not just a political or constitutional -- issue.

"This is not about being anti-gun or against the second amendment,” he said.  “It’s about being sick and tired of telling mothers that their children, who have been shot, are dead.”
