Sprint into the history books: NYC Pride Run breaks Guinness World Record

June 30, 2019 - 2:15 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – This year’s NYC LGBT Pride Run broke a Guinness World Record as more than 10,000 runners crossed the finish line.

The event set the record for the largest pride charity run. The benchmark to beat was 6,001 finishers. Saturday’s run had 10,236 finishers.

The record-breaking run came the same year as the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising and on the year that the city hosted WorldPride, a massive celebration of the LGBTQ community.

The run was hosted by Front Runners New York and New York Road Runners. This year’s run benefited the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center (The Center) in the West Village.

“On behalf of Guinness World Records, we welcome FRNY and NYRR to the record-breaking family,” said Christine Fernandez, Guinness World Records adjudicator.

The five-mile race was held at Central Park. Urgesa Kedir Figa, of Ethiopia, and Lindsey Scherf of High Falls, New York, were the winners.
