NEW YORK (1010 WINS) --  A Long Island drum and bugle corps has been invited to compete at the world championships, and they're raising money so they can take the trip.

The appearance of the FREE Players Drum & Bugle Corps will mark the first time that a special needs drum and bugle corps performs at the DCA World Championships in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Musicians Kristina Janikowski is excited that her hard work is paying off.

“I practice every day. All of my best friends are helping me a lot,” she says.

The group hopes to make their Labor Day performance and has started a GoFundMe page that has raised $1,500 of the $50,000 they need.

Anyone wishing to donate can go to the GoFundMe page.
