BALDWIN, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A student brought a loaded handgun to a Long Island elementary school on Monday, officials said.

No one was hurt in the incident at Meadow Elementary in Baldwin, but it certainly left parents unnerved.

Sources tell 1010 WINS the student was being questioned after school officials found the loaded gun.

ABC7 reports that the student is a 10-year-old boy who had a .40-caliber Glock. He showed the weapon to a friend in the lunchroom and a lunch monitor brought him to the office, where bullets were found in the chamber and in the magazine, according to the report.

The Baldwin School District says police were notified immediately and that the situation was quickly taken care of.

In a statement, the district wrote: “The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority in the Baldwin School District. Our staff was made aware of the occurrence, the police were notified and the situation was rectified immediately.”
