NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Many questions surround an off-duty NYPD sergeant and a shooting in Brooklyn.

Police sources say 40-year-old Ritchard Blake was dating the victim's girlfriend and that the men had argued two weeks ago. Cources say Blake was already on probation with the NYPD following an arrest two years ago on allegations that he attacked his girlfriend.

Blake has been placed on desk duty and his gun and shield have been taken away.

NYPD Chief Terence Monahan and Commissioner James O'Neill say it's too early to determine if this was a justified shooting or not.

"We're not going to make any determination at this point until we can actually interview everyone that's involved, so this is going to be an ongoing case with the Kings County DA," Monahan said.

"Just to clarify there was no firearm found at the scene," O'Neill said.

Blake fired his gun twice, striking the other man in the face. At the time he claimed he opened fire during an attempted mugging.
