Some fear teen’s brutal death on Long Island may be work of MS-13

LAWRENCE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A teenager was found shot and stabbed to death on Long Island Tuesday, and while police haven’t identified the victim, there are indications it might be the work of the MS-13 gang.

Police said a man walking his dog discovered the victim face-up in a wooded area behind the Five Towns Community Center on Lawrence Avenue around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The center is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood and the discovery has unnerved those living nearby.

One neighbor told CBS2 that a murder in the area is very unusual.

"I don't remember ever that anybody was found dead anywhere, for God sakes, so it was pretty shocking," he said.

The victim, described by police as a young Latino man in his late teens, had been shot multiple times and stabbed at least once.

Detectives remained at the scene for hours Tuesday scouring for clues.

Nassau Police Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun said it’s too early to say if the murder is gang-related, but some residents are horrified and fear MS-13 may be behind it.

MS-13 has been blamed for dozens of killings on Long Island over the past couple years.

While campaigning in 2016, then-candidate Donald Trump said lax immigration was to blame for the brutal slayings.

Many of the victims were young Latinos whose bodies were found in wooded areas.
