Snoop Dogg Headlining Jersey City's 4th Of July Celebration

June 15, 2018 - 11:37 am

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A carnival-style party on Jersey City's waterfront could draw 200,000 people to celebrate America's birthday.

And even if it's 95 degrees, no matter, because keeping everybody cool will be the headliner, Snoop Dogg.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said Grucci fireworks over the Hudson River will be part of the night.

"You can't beat the views of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty on 4th of July. I think we're going to have a superior product to anybody else in the region," Fulop said.

He's calling this Jersey's Independence Day equivalent to the Times Square ball drop.

Fulop says their celebration leaves New York City's in the dust.

"We started this five years ago, we're gaining fast. I think we'll overtake them," Fulop said.

The party starts at noon on July 4 and the best part -- the event is free.
