NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The latest culinary debate hits home for New Yorkers -- it centers around how one should cut a bagel.

The controversey erupted after Alek Krautmann of St. Louis tweeted a photo of two boxes of bagels from Panera Bread with the bagels sliced like a loaf of bread.

"Today I introduced my coworkers to the St Louis secret of ordering bagels bread sliced. It was a hit!" he wrote.

Well, it may have gone over well with his coworkers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, but it didn't go quite as well with the Twittersphere as a whole.

Among those taking to Twitter to express his disdain for the sliced bagels were NYC councilman Justin Brannan.

"I believe this is a Class A felony in New York City," he wrote. "And if its not, it should be."

Some of the other tweets taking on this seemingly unholy way to slice a bagel:

Panera Bread even chimed in, sharing Krautmann's tweet and adding, "Our team is divided over here. Do other people slice their bagel Bread Co style?"

A spokesperson for Panera Bread subsequently said in a statement, " they'll slice a box of bagels "however you like."
