NEW YORK (1010 WINS) —Showers and thunderstorms hit the New York City area Wednesday afternoon and evening, along with strong winds.

Lighting even struck One World Trade, according to this photo below:

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., LaGuardia, JFK and Newark airports all had ground stops, because of the weather. Around the same time, the LIRR said it was operating at reduced speeds after an overheight vehicle struck an LIRR bridge on 150th Street in Jamiaca. "Customers can anticipate delays averaging 10 mins in both directions," the LIRR tweeted.

Wednesday night will be cloudy and humid with a low of 72.

Thursday will be partly sunny, quite warm and humid, and the possibility of a stray afternoon thunderstorm can’t be ruled out.

The expected high is 86, but it may feel as high as the low to mid 90s.

The weekend looks warm and dry with comfortable humidity and highs in the low 80s.
