NEW YORK (1010 WINS) --  Senator Chuck Schumer is urging the outgoing FDA commissioner to ensure a ban goes into place on E-cigarettes that are kid-friendly flavored.

Schumer says FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb has been effective on this front so far, but he fears what will happen once Gottlieb leaves his position.

"He really stuck up for the average consumer but now with his departure, there's something to worry about and that is inaction on these E-cig's, and particularly the kid flavors that they use to lure kids into vaping." Schumer said.

He pointed to new data that shows that the use of E-cigarettes use among pre-teens and teenagers is rising.

Schumer asks that Gottlieb finalize the ban on flavored E-cigarette products in convenience stores, which he says is where the majority of kids in the city and Long Island purchase them.
