NEW YORK (1010 WINS) --  Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's empire now includes the literary world, following the release today of her first ever children's book.

"Bold and Brave: Ten Heroes Who Won Women The Right To Vote" is a book about suffragists. The book's release comes ahead of the 100th anniversary in 2020 of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted and protected women's right to vote.

Gillibrand has said that her great-grandmother, grandmother and mother inspired her to write the book.

The Democratic lawmaker on Tuesday tweeted that she co-author Maira Kalman "tell the stories of 10 courageous activists who took big risks to win American women the right to vote. I'm so thrilled to see this book out in the world."

In a previous statement, Gillibrand said, "The lessons of these incredible women leaders are ones of perseverance and determination and a willingness to never give up, especially when it’s really hard. Our history teaches us that each new generation builds on the last, and I hope this book will inspire young readers to be bold and brave in dreaming big and never giving up."

The 10 suffragists profiled in the book are Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Jovita Idár, Alice Paul, Inez Milholland, Ida B. Wells, Lucy Burns, Mary Church Terrell.
