Schumer Wants To Know What's Driving Increase In Toddler Drownings

July 16, 2018 - 10:32 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Senator Chuck Schumer has released a report showing a spike in toddler drownings.

"I'm urging the CDC to look at our report, and investigate the rising trend of toddler drownings, and do two things. One come up with a protocol to prevent it, and two reach out to parents who have children less than four years of age and tell them what these safety protocols are," he said.

Schumer held a news conference at John Hay Park on the Upper East Side on Sunday.

The CDC said drowning deaths have gone up from 417 to 463 between 2014 and 2016.

Schumer also wants to know why 66 percent of drowning victims were boys.
