PARAMUS, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- The bus driver in a crash on Route 80 that left a teacher and student dead has been charged.

Investigators say Hudy Muldrow Sr, 77, has been charged with death by auto. They say he tried to merge onto Route 80 in Mount Olive, and turned sharply towards a u-turn area.

He was expected to be taken into custody on Thursday.

Officials say Muldrow had 14 license suspensions. He allegedly made an illegal u-turn on Rout 80 before colliding with a dump truck.

A custody hearing was scheduled for Friday.

Authorities say Muldrow could face additional charges.

A Funeral Mass was held on Thursday for Jennifer Williamson, the teacher killed in the crash.

Colleagues, students, and friends lovingly shared anecdotes about Williamson and her devotion to her fifth graders at East Brook Middle School.

"She went above and beyond to get to know them as human beings," one woman said.

"Just embracing and loving the kids as if they were her own," another added.

Friend Rob Carmichael carried a toy cardinal with him, it was a gift from Williamson who had a connection to the bright red bird.

"A cardinal came to her when her brother passed. She asked god for a sign that her brother was alright, she was on a cruise ship in the middle of nowhere and a cardinal flew into her room," he said.

Her loved ones focus on those memories as they learn about the driver implicated in the crash.
