NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Santa, Mrs. Claus and superheroes visited kids in Brooklyn on Saturday to give out thousands of presents.

Dozens of police cars and trucks, all decorated for Christmas, made their way down Kingsland Avenue by afternoon.

Santa was behind the wheel of a patrol car and officers were dressed as superheroes.

Assistant Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said it’s all about reaching out to the community.

“From Greenpoint down to East New York; from Brownsville to Clinton Hill,” Maddrey said. “We make 10 stops. There are hundreds of kids. Hundreds of families.”

This is the third year officers from the Brooklyn North patrol squad delivered toys to children like 7-year-old Skylar, who was just happy to be out celebrating the season.

“Christmas is just for joy and happiness, it’s not all about presents really,” Skylar said. “But if you’re enjoying it and you love the songs, it’s great to have a holiday like this.”

The outreach pays big dividends throughout the year as police and community relations improve.
