CLIFTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Residents in New Jersey were outraged after a business owner posted a sign in its front window that read, “Speak English or Pay $10 Extra.”

Cutters Edge, a knife and blade sharpening has been bombarded by angry callers, and negative online reviews by residents, demanding officials shut the store down,.

"SHUT THEM DOWN FOR BEING RACIST PIECES OF S**T! RACISM IS NOT WELCOMED IN NJ!" one user tweeted.

Others wrote negative Yelp reviews about the store being racist with one-star ratings.

"Racist owners who are being boycotted enough said like go somewhere else and buy from people who have morals," one Yelp reviewer wrote.

Owner Dave Feinberg told NorthJersey.com that he put up the sign two weeks ago "out of frustration" after dealing with a customer he said "made no attempt to speak English."

“I had something to get off my chest,” he said. “The reason for the $10 is because he wasted 10 minutes of my time,” he explained, admitting it was a “mistake” to suggest he would charge extra.
