Report: Cops suspect mob hit in Sheepshead Bay shooting

October 29, 2018 - 9:44 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Cops say a gun was recovered at the scene of what some papers are calling an apparent mob hit in Sheepshead Bay.

Vincent Zito, 77, was found dead on Friday, with a pair of gunshot wounds to the back of the head.

A handyman working for the victim told the New York Post that Zito was found by his grandson.

Howard Stewart said he showed up at the house to paint on Saturday morning, a cops answered the door, and Zito's grandson broke the news.

“He started shaking his head. I said, ‘What happened?’ He said he got two shots in the head.” Stewart said.

Cops say there were no signs of forced entry.

Sources told the Post that cops are eyeing a mob connection to the shooting, but it remains unclear which family Zito would have been affiliated with.

A published report claims Zito and his older brother have had past run ins with the law. Anthony Zito, 82, has alleged Luchese ties, and was busted for extortion in 1971, the report says. It claims Vincent was the subject of a loan sharking arrest.
