Report: Coca Cola mulls move into cannabis infused drinks
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- With its soda sales slumping, Coca Cola is considering a move into the growing market for cannabis infused drinks.
The company said it's closely watching the growth of CBD as an ingredient in wellness beverages.
CBD is a component in marijuana that does not produce a high, but has been used for medical purposes.
Bloomberg reports Canadian company Aurora Cannabis has been in talks with Coke. Aurora has also expressed interest in cannabis drinks.
"There is so much happening in this area right now and we think it has incredible potential," said Aurora spokesperson Heather MacGregor. "Stories like this are further validation of the massive global potential of the cannabis industry."
Coke says no decisions have been made at this time.
Craft beer label Lagunitas has a drink infused with THC -- the active, high producing ingredient in marijuana -- available for purchase at dispensaries in California.
