NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is busy preparing for Sunday's New York City marathon.

Last year security was beefed up following the West Side bike path attack. Police Commissioner James O'Neill said security will be even tighter this year.

"We have to be mindful of what goes on around the world, and around the nation, not just what happens in New York City," O'Neill said.

That includes the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting.

There will be thousands of cops along the marathon route, some you will see, others you won't see. There will also be bomb sniffing dogs and officers armed with heavy weaponry.

"There are no specific or credible threats to New York City this week, and nothing directed towards the events surrounding the marathon," O'Neill said.

The 26 plus mile route touches all five boroughs making the marathon a bigger security challenge than other, more contained events, like the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

In addition to a presence on the ground, the NYPD will also have harbor units, aviation, and rooftop teams deployed.
