NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A cold front will bring soaking rain to the tri-state on Sunday and Monday but should move out in time for New Year’s celebrations.

Saturday was sunny with a high of 50 degrees—beautiful weather for late December—but things got wet on Sunday afternoon a cold front brought drenching rain that's expected to stick around Monday.

The heaviest rain is expected late Sunday and early Monday morning, when lows will reach 45 in the city.

The rain and foggy weather will make for a miserable day Monday as the nasty conditions continue through the afternoon.

Several inches of rain are expected when all is said and done. Thankfully it won’t be too cold—highs are in the mid-to-upper 40s on Sunday and Monday.

The rain moves out Monday afternoon, leaving a cloudy but dry New Year’s Eve. The high Tuesday will be 47 degrees in the city and the weather should be pleasant for Times Square revelers ringing in the New Year.

New Year’s Day will be partly sunny with a high of 44 degrees.
