NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Queens DA's office has brought charges against a man who menaced an African American woman on a Long Island Railroad train with a hate filled rant.

The whole thing was caught on video -- the man in the video calls the woman a 'loudmouth' among other things in the profanity laced tirade.

Edward Ruggiero, 58, of Long Beach has been charged with menacing as a hate crime.

In the video, some passengers were seen leaving the car, while others tried to intervene.

District Attorney Richard Brown said the bigotry and hatred that the defendant is accused of manifesting and acting upon have no place in civilized society.

Ruggiero is being held pending arraignment in Queens criminal court. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail and, or a $1,000 fine.
