NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A new pizza war is starting to sizzle in Manhattan.

The owner of Prince Street Pizza in SoHo is pursuing legal action against a former employee.

Owner Frank Morano says longtime employee Frank Badali stole his special recipe and is using it at his new joint, Made In New York Pizza on the Upper West Side.

“This is a copycat that is trying to capitalize on Prince Street Pizza and their success,” a spokesman for Morano told

The recipe in question is the “Spicy Spring,” described as a light-and-crispy square slice of pepperoni.

The alleged copycat slice is called “Spicy Pepperoni.”

Morano says Badali is breaking a confidentiality agreement and wants him to stop selling the new slice.

The owner of Made In New York Pizza says that in fact Badali is the mastermind behind the “Spicy Spring.”

“I don’t think he stole it … He created it,” he told the New York Post.

Morano didn’t return calls to the Post and Badali declined to comment.
