NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Brooklyn Bridge will be the centerpiece of the Macy’s fireworks spectacular this Independence Day.

Preparations for the July 4 show are beginning as four barges are being loaded up on Staten Island.

Over 70,000 shells and effects will be fired from the barges from below the bridge off Manhattan's Pier 17.

Executive Producer Susan Tercero says this year’s fireworks display and score will feature the movies.

“We have ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ sung by Jennifer Hudson and a beautiful, colorful display of fireworks to go along with it,” she says, honoring the 80th anniversary of the Wizard of Oz.

Pyrotechnic guru Gary Souza will be attaching displays to 75 different positions on the bridge.

“We built some customized props that will just attach to the bridge without damaging it,” he said.
