'Possibly suicidal' Long Island woman in custody after twin daughters, 2, found dead in car: police

MEDFORD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island woman is in police custody after her twin two-year-old daughters were found in her car and subsequently declared dead, Suffolk County Police told 1010 WINS Thursday. 

Police had received a 911 call regarding the unknown location of a "possibly suicidal" woman, Suffolk County Police said. 

After an extensive search that spanned area from Medford to Montauk, the vehicle with the woman and her children was found at a park in Montauk. The family is from Medford, Suffolk County.

The children were located inside the vehicle in cardiac arrest and were transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The children’s mother was taken into custody at the scene.

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating.
