NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the deal with Amazon to build a headquarters in Long Island City, Queens was a no brainer.

“This was the grand prize from an economic development point of view,” he said.

Critics say Cuomo lacks brains for agreeing to it.

"I think he has dug himself a deep hole. He should just realize this was a mistake and not dig any deeper," State Senator Mike Genaris said.

A new Siena Research Institute poll found that most New Yorkers agree with the governor.

Fifty-six percent of those polled support the Amazon project. Among city residents there were 58 percent in support.

New York has promised Amazon up to $3 billion in tax incentives. Amazon has made promises too, among them a vow to create 25,000 new jobs.

Last Friday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon executives were having second thoughts about coming to Queens. Mayor Bill de Blasio says he still expects Amazon to come to the city.

De Blasio called it 'mission critical' for Amazon to come to the city, and that the jobs created will be essential in advancing New York's technology sector.
